Useful Gamification links for people just getting into Gamifying a classroom [in no particular order]:

• Scott Nicholson has a wide variety of gamification resources available at Because Play Matters. I especially found his paper Exploring Gamification Techniques for Classroom Management useful (although “in the classroom” might have been a better title than “for classroom management”) and here is a complete list of publications.
• What Critics Don’t Understand About Gamified Education by Eugene Sheely is an interesting read that also links to other useful articles. Actually, you should probably just check out the entire Education Channel from GamificationCorp.
• Jerome Sudan of Playful Wingmen has a well done slideshow titled Gamification – Extrinsic Rewards vs. Intrinsic Rewards that explains Gamifications and different motivators.
• Top 10 Education Gamification Examples that will Change our Future by Yu-kai Chou. Although most of these are Games in Education instead of Gamification of Education, it’s still a very very worthwhile list. Also, it took me a few weeks of working on gamification to understand why his article Octalysis: Complete Gamification Framework is incredible, but it is.
• http://lesswrong.com/lw/hx7/a_gamification_of_education_a_modest_proposal/ by Ritalin might not be practical, but is still an interesting read. I originally heard about about the website Less Wrong from the author of the only bit of fan fiction I have ever read.
• The introductory article, Gamification in Education: What, How, Why Bother?, by Joey J. Lee and Jessica Hammer is an interesting read. There are probably other good articles at Gamifying Education as well.
• Counter Point(ish) article Forget Gamification: It’s Time For Mastery by Kaila Colbin is also worth reading.
• Classroom Leadership: Rewards Are Like Crack by John Spencer was an interesting read while I was thinking about the perks/bonuses/rewards that students could choose from.
• 8 Tips to Create a Killer Gamification Strategy is aimed at more at gamification in a business setting, but it still has a lot of interesting advice.
